ATLANTA, Ga. - After coming off an impressive offensive output yesterday, the Panthers kept the same momentum they built yesterday in to today. BSC recorded 13 hits as they defeated Oglethorpe 9-7 and swept their second straight series.
Unlike yesterday, the Stormy Petrels got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. The lead did not last long as Birmingham-Southern responded with three runs in the top of the second inning. BSC recorded five hits in the inning all being singles.
Joey White threw a scoreless next two innings helping the Panthers extend their lead. BSC scored a run in the third and generated four runs in the fourth to take a 8-1 lead. Two runs in the fourth inning came off the bat of
Ian Hancock who smashed a two-run homerun, his third of the weekend.
The Panthers scored a run in the fifth and that is all they scored the rest of the game. Luckily, that is all they would need. Oglethorpe fought back into the game scratching across two runs in the fifth and seventh innings to cut the lead 8-6. They added a run in the eighth to pull within one, but could not muster a complete comeback as
Davis Williams shut the Stormy Petrels down in the ninth to secure BSC's sixth straight victory, and second straight conference sweep.
