PANTHERS FALL IN FINAL GAMES OF REGULAR SEASON

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team fell to Berry College, ending their win streak. The Panthers lost in a close game at 4-3 in the first game of the doubleheader, then falling 8-4 in the second.

Game one
Berry was the first on the board in game one of the series, putting up their first run in the bottom of the first. The Panthers came back, putting up one in the top of the second but Berry was not far behind adding another run in the second as well. Birmingham-Southern tried to push through, adding a tying run in the top of the third to make the game an even 2-2. Holding Berry off in the fourth and fifth innings, the game stayed at a tie until the Panthers took the lead in the top of the sixth to make it 3-2. Unfortunately, Berry was not done yet and put up two more of their own runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3 and take the game after a scoreless seventh for the Panthers.

Jada Askew had a good day going 2-for-4 with a homerun. Leah Wood was the only Panther with an extra base hit. Wood went 1-for-3 in the game with one run. Morgan McGuire, Izzy Berkopec, Sam Hilyer, and Cassidy Dickson all had singles for the Panthers. Morgan McGuire had one RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Izzy Berkopec and Kaylyn Chapman both had stolen bases in game one, while Cassidy Dickson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Sam Hilyer was the only other run brought in for the Panthers.

Berry managed to add a run of their ownin the bottom of the second to close the Panthers lead up 2-1. While the Panthers were unable to capitalize in the top of the fifth, Berry added six runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth to take a big 8-2 lead. Katie Wood tried to fight back for Birmingham-Southern with an RBI single in the top of the sixth to score Jada Askew.
