BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Panthers fell behind early but stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Oglethorpe by nine goals in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately it was little to late and the Panthers fell 20-19.
BSC and Oglethorpe traded for most of the first quarter, but the Stormy Petrels came out ahead 5-2 after 15 minutes of play. Oglethorpe hung onto the momentum for most of the second quarter. They scored the first five goals in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead. The Panthers scored three goals late in the period, all three being scored by
Marissa Henderson, to inch closer. Birmingham-Southern went into halftime trailing 12-5.
The Panthers came out firing in the third quarter scoring three of the first five goals to dig into the lead a little more. Oglethorpe responded scoring five of the next six goals to close out the third period.
The fourth quarter was completely controlled by the Panthers. BSC outscored Oglethorpe 10-1 in the fourth quarter.
Margot Peters and
Kathleen Napier combined for five of the goals. BSC pulled within one goal with 50 seconds left in the game. They could not find the equalizer to extend the game into overtime and fell 20-19.
