BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team faced the Millsaps Majors for the second time in the Pod tournament. This time facing them in the final game to advance to the championship series. The Panthers took the game 8-1 to advance to the championship series against Berry College.
Caroline Campbell started things off for the Panthers with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first with one strikeout. The top of the second saw a solo homerun from
Leah Wood, that put the Panthers up 1-0. The Majors were able to tie up the game in the bottom of the third, making it 1-1. Birmingham-Southern put up six runs on five hits in the top of the fourth.
Kaylyn Chapman was the first to bring in a run with a single through the right side that scored
Izzy Berkopec. Two more runs were scored by
Kaylyn Chapman and
Sam Hilyer after a single to right field from
Cassidy Dickson. A fielding error by the first baseman put
Morgan McGuire on base and allowed Dickson to score.
Alyssa Fowler joined in on the fun with a single that brought in McGuire. The last run of the inning was brought in by
Kailey Walters with a double to right center field, putting the Panthers up 7-1.
The Birmingham-Southern defense kept things moving with 1-2-3 innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth. The top of the sixth saw the final run of the game for the Panthers with a double to center field from
Kailey Walters that made it 8-1. BSC was able to hold off the Majors from scoring anymore runs, taking the game 8-1 and advancing to the championship series.
