FRESHMEN ARMS HELP PANTHERS TO REGIONAL WIN

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Freshmen pitchers Joey White and Connor Adams helped propel the Panthers to a 10-2 win over Earlham College in the opening game of the Lynchburg Regional. The two pitchers combined for eight innings pitched, allowing five hits, striking out seven, and allowing just two earned runs.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. After the first two Panthers in the inning were retired, Noah Best drew a two-out walk bringing up the dangerous Ian Hancock. During the at-bat Hancock and Best executed a perfect hit-and-run ultimately resulting in a run for the Panthers.

For the next couple innings neither team was able to push across a run. In the fifth inning BSC extended their lead to 4-0. After two, one-out singles, Noah Best brought both runners in with a double to left field. Best later came around to score on a Jack Fleming single to bring in the fourth run of the game for the Panthers.

Birmingham-Southern scored six runs over the next three innings. After BSC pushed a run across in the sixth, Earlham got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. The Quakers pulled within three runs after getting two in the seventh but that was as close as they could pull within. BSC scored multiple runs in the seventh and eighth inning, while holding Earlham scoreless.

Birmingham-Southern advanced in the winners bracket of the Lynchburg Regional after the 10-2 win.
