PANTHERS ADVANCE TO REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

LYNCHBURG, VA. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team advanced to the Lynchburg Regional Championship Game after defeating the host, University of Lynchburg 10-2. After being held scoreless in the first two innings BSC exploded for five runs in the third, before capping it off with five runs over the next three innings.

BSC found themselves down early after Lynchburg plated two runs in the opening inning. The Panther offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but opened up their scoring in the third. BSC got the first two batters of the inning on before Lynchburg got the Panthers to ground into a double play and gain some momentum back. Cole Steadman then walked before Noah Best crushed a ball over the left field fence to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. The scoring did not stop there as the Panthers got two more runs in the inning, with Ian Hancock scoring and Alfredo Granier bringing in Cam McNearney for Birmingham-Southern to take a 5-2 lead after three complete innings.

The Panthers gained even more momentum in the top of the fourth, after two batters reached Carter Tyus got the Hornets to line into a double play. In the bottom of the fourth in would be Noah Best again to drive in Cole Steadman and extend the BSC lead to 6-2. Birmingham-Southern added four runs over the next two innings to take a 10-2 lead after six innings.

The Panther pitching staff held Lynchburg scoreless from the second inning onward helping the Panthers reach the Regional Championship game for the second straight year.
