BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite a barrage of shots from Maryville down the stretch, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team was able to hold their ground for a tie.
BSC looked to be more aggressive at the start of the match tallying up several shots in the early minutes. A string of fouls gave Maryville the advantage on offense, but
Mary Claire Henry prevented any goals from being scored, totaling 8 saves for the match.
Maryville continued to test BSC's goalkeeper until
Abby Walker was able to breakaway for an unassisted score at the other end giving BSC the lead. As the half was winding down, Maryville snuck in a goal to bring the match to a draw.
The heat of the early afternoon did not stop the shots from flying in the second half with both teams looking to jump ahead. BSC maintained their ball movement trying to get a solid angle on the goal, but the opposing defense would not budge an inch.
The final minutes saw Maryville using the last of their energy to take the lead with shot after shot. An all-around team effort was seen from BSC who loaded up the box to prevent a last second score. A possible run looked to be in place, but time expired before they could get within striking distance.
