BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team outlasted a late push from the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels to take a 98-92 win in the Panthers Southern Athletic Association opening weekend.
A 12-1 run by Oglethorpe made it a one-point game with 6:43 on the clock, after BSC was leading by as much as 12 in the second half. BSC would get the stops they needed and clutch baskets late in the ame to hold its lead and take a six-point victory over the Stormy Petrels. The win snapped a three-game losing stream against Oglethorpe.
Bryson Bishop,
Jay Gillispie,
Kaleb Green, and
Martise Jackson combined for 72 of the Panthers 98 points.
Bryson Bishop recorded a career-high 28 points, blowing past his previous mark of 17. Bishop hit six three pointers and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Jay Gillispie recorded his third double-double of the season after his 16-point, 12-rebound performance in the win.
Kaleb Green also recorded a career-high after scoring 15 points, he also added three boards and three assists in the contests.
Uba Ezigbo led Oglethorpe with 17 points, seven boards and two steals. Jackson Kemp added 14 points and six rebounds while Jordan James and Mason Kemp each recorded 12 points in the loss.
