PANTHERS FALL TO VIKINGS IN OVERTIME

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team battled back from down eight to tie the game and force overtime against rival Berry College. Jay Gillispie made a layup with just over a second remaining on the clock to send the game to overtime. It was the Vikings that would earn the victory in the end. 

After a 17-5 run towards the end of the first half gave Berry most of the momentum it was the Panthers that gained the momentum at the end of regulation. BSC trailed for majority of the second half but, in the two minutes, Birmingham-Southern went on an 11-1 run to tie the game and force overtime. Jay Gillispie hit a driving layup with under a second left to give the Panthers momentum as the teams headed to overtime. Berry outscored BSC 15-7 in overtime to defeat the Panthers 89-81.

Jay Gillispie powered the offense recording his fourth double-double of the season and second of the weekend. Gillispie posted 18 points and 10 rebounds after coming off an 16-12 performance on Friday. Coming off a career-high 28 point game against Oglethorpe, Byrson Bishop again scored in double-figures scoring 17 while also dishing out three assists. Josh Childers scored 16 in the loss bouncing back from his four point performance two nights before. 

The Vikings were led by Blake Campbell who scored 30 and shooting 10-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from three point land. Riley Costas added 12 points and 12 boards for the Vikings in the win.

The Panthers will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Rhodes College next Friday, Jan. 13. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
