VOLLEYBALL STUNNED ON THE ROAD AT MILLSAPS

JACKSON, Miss. - After winning the first two sets, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team lost a heart-breaker against conference foe Millsaps on Wednesday night.

Both sides had great starts in set one with the score tied at ten after two attack errors by the Majors. Millsaps then took a 14-12 lead, but the Panthers pieced together four-straight points led by three Madison Williams kills. Millsaps would not go away and cut the deficit to one at 19-18 late in the opening set. 'Southern then caught fire and scored an impressive six consecutive points to close out set one 25-18.

Set two saw a similar start to set one with both teams being tied at nine early on. The Majors then scored four-straight to give themselves a 13-9 lead. The Panthers continued to stay alive in the set and eventually climbed back to tie things at 16. Neither side could pull away, and the score was tied at 22 late in set two. BSC then outscored Millsaps 3-1 after an Emily Buhl kill and two attack errors to take a 2-0 lead on the night.

Millsaps came out flying in set three and scored 10 points before 'Southern could get on the board. The Panthers then trailed 20-9 with a big mountain to climb. BSC did not give up and cut the deficit to six after an Ainsley Schultz service ace, but the margin would be too much. Millsaps went onto win the third set 25-18 to make the match score 2-1.

In set four, BSC trailed 10-8 early after three consecutive points by the Majors. The Panthers then trailed 20-14 as it looked like the set might be slipping away. They then went on an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to one at 23-22. However, the Majors put together back-to-back points to hold off the Panthers and force a fifth set.

In the final set, 'Southern had a tight 5-4 lead, but the Majors then went on a 6-1 run to go up 10-6. The Panthers cut the deficit to as small as three but were not able to put together a comeback. Millsaps went on to win the final set 15-10 and took the 3-2 win on the night.
