SAN ANTONIO, Texas. - Centerfielder
Cam McNearney doubled off a Trinity baserunner after catching a line drive in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday, lifting fourth-ranked BSC to a 7-6 win over the Tigers.
BSC improved to 2-0 avenging their two losses a year ago against the Tigers.
McNearney laid down a safety squeeze down in the top of the 10th against Trinity reliever Harrison Durow (0-1) to give the Panthers a 7-6 lead. Eli Steadman got on with a lead off walk before Ty Truett sac bunted him over to second. Dutton then walked and Steadman would advance to third on a wild pitch. McNearney then executed a safety squeeze to bring home the winning run.
Connor Adams (1-0), the third BSC pitcher of the game, was credited with the win Saturday after he pitched four innings of and striking out four on 72 pitches.
Trinity led 5-4 heading into the top of the ninth inning, when the Tigers catcher made a throwing error allowing two runs to score for the Panthers and having BSC take a 6-5 lead.
The Tigers tied the game the bottom of the ninth after a ground out to first plated the tying run for Trinity University.
After a leadoff walk to start the ninth for Trinity, Davis Williams got the next batter to foul out. The very next batter hit a line drive to centerfield where it found the glove of McNearney who fired a bullet to first base, doubling off the Tigers baserunner and securing another victory for the Panthers.
Williams was credited with his second save in as many days.
