PANTHERS DROP GAME THREE BUT WIN SERIES

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Right-hander Jackson Teer limited Birmingham-Southern to one run over seven innings Sunday, Feb. 12 as Trinity University (Texas) posted a 6-2 win over the Panthers at the Trinity Baseball Field.

Trinity improved to 1-2 overall, while BSC dropped to 2-1 overall after the first weekend of play for both teams.

Teer (1-0) allowed one run on six hits in seven innings with no walks and four strikeouts, firing 113 pitches.

BSC right-hander Ricky Harrison (0-1) was charged with the loss as he allowed five runs on four hits in one inning of work with two strikeouts. The BSC bullpen would allow just one run over the final eight innings of play but were unable to overcome the six run deficit after the first two innings.

Designated hitter Ian Hancock colleted two hits and one RBI, and third baseman Ty Truett produced two hits and scored a run to lead the BSC offense.

Trinity grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a single through the right side by Cristian Holloway, before two walks with the bases loaded brought in the other two runs.

Trinity added to the lead in the bottom of the second with another three run inning. Catcher Nicholas Lazzara extended the lead to 6-0 after a three run homer to right field.

BSC got a run back in the top of the third after Hancock hit an RBI singled to score Truett. The Birmingham-Southern bullpen continued to throw up zeros on the scoreboard but, the BSC offense could not scratch across any runs.

The Panthers would score one run in the ninth on a Jackson Webster single that scored catcher Jack Fleming. That was all the Panthers would get across in the inning as they dropped the final game of the series 6-2.
