BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team had the Lynx of Rhodes College on the ropes late in the second half but could not get the stops or scores they needed to secure the victory on Senior Night.
The Panthers came out hot shooting the ball but a 20-6 run by the Lynx quickly flipped the script of the first half as they erased a double-digit lead by BSC. The second half was a back and forth affair by both teams saw the Lynx coming up clutch down the stretch and securing the victory in a pivotal conference matchup.
Senior,
Josh Childers led all Panther scorers with 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting while grabbing six rebounds.
Jay Gillispie recorded his third double-double in a row after a 14-point, 12-rebound performance in the loss.
Martise Jackson and
Kaleb Green each scored 12 in the contest.
Four of five starters for the Lynx scored in double-figures with Koki Wiley leading all scoreres with 19 points. Jalen Essick put up 15 points and grabbed six boards in the win over the Panthers. Zavien Williams and Jefferson Walker each scored double-digits to round out the starters that scored 10 or more points.
What it means
The Panthers hold sole possession of fourth place in the SAA. With two games to play the Panthers are in good position to host the quaterfinal round of the SAA tournament.
