BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the ninth consecutive year the Birmingham-Southern men's swim and dive team have claimed top spot among the Southern Athletic Association after winning the 2023 Swim and Dive Conference Championship.
Birmingham-Southern opened up with a bang in the 3-meter diving event. The Panthers swept the leader board placing 1-2-3 in the event.
Avery Balch placed first with a score of 548.20.
Justin Toth earned second with a score of 530.70 and in third was
Garrett George with a score fo 518.25.
Birmingham-Southern took a 189 point lead into the final session of the championship. To start the final session BSC placed second and fourth in the 1650 freestyle event.
Charlie Fountain placed second with a time of 16:03.84 while
Adam Jones took fourth with a time of 16:16.80.
Chris Rubin gathered a third place finish in the 200 backstroke and
Jakob Icimsoy placed second in the 100 freestyle to extend BSC's lead over the rest of the conference.
Aden Kraft and
Graham Simmon placed second and third in the 200 breaststroke to further the Panthers lead. Another second place finish by
Noah Prevost added to the total for BSC.
Birmingham-Southern capped off the meet with a second place finish in the final relay event of the championship. Birmingham-Southern claimed their ninth consecutive championship with 932 points.
