Andrew Dutton drove in four runs with two extra-base hits Saturday, and sophomore right-hander
Joey White went six innings allowing three earned runs as the Panthers posted a 9-5 win over LaGrange at Striplin Field.
The Panthers improved to 3-1 overall while LaGrange fell to 1-1 overall.
White (2-0) earned the win, as he allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Luke Jones earned his first save of the season going three innings, striking out five hitters and allowing just a single hit.
LaGrange starter Dalton Brooks (0-1) was charged with the loss, as he surrendered seven runs on five hits in three innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
After a scoreless first innings, Birmingham-Southern struck for four runs in the bottom of the second as Andrew Dutton tripled to score three runs.
BSC extended its lead to 8-2 in the fourth inning after LaGrange scored two in the top of the fourth. Andrew Dutton and Ian Hancock both doubled in a runs. Noah Best then singled in a run to put the Panthers up 8-2.
The Panthers would hold on to the lead after LaGrange threatened scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth. A Will Lantis single added insurance for BSC as the Panthers went on to win 9-5.
