WEISBERG EARNS 500TH VICTORY AS PANTHERS DEFEAT QUAKERS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Head Coach Jan Weisberg earned his 500th career victory as the Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the Wilmington Quakers 13-5 in the teams first game of the weekend.

The Panthers improved to 7-1 on the season as the Quakers fell to 0-5.

Josh Leerssen (2-0) earned the win after pitching six innings, giving up five hits, allowing no runs, and striking out nine on the afternoon. Leerssen did not walk a batter in a start for the first time in his career as he held the Wilmington offense at bay all afternoon.

David Ernst (0-2) collected the loss. Ernst lasted just three innings while giving up six hits and five runs (four earned). The Panthers proceeded to score eight runs as the Quakers brought in arms out of the bullpen.

Leading the charge for the Panthers offense was Ian Hancock who recorded a two-hit game, while driving in four runs. Wesley Diamantis also recorded two-hits and drove in three. Seven of the Panthers 16 hits on the afternoon went for extra bases.

The Panthers got out to an early two nothing lead in the bottom of the first before adding three more in the bottom half of the third inning. They added one run in the middle three frames before tagging the Quakers for seven in the seventh to go up 13-0. BSC held on to win 13-5.
