HOT SHOOTING DOWNS PANTHERS

ROME, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team dropped their Sunday contest at Berry by a 91-71 score. The Vikings shot the ball well all game with the Panthers having no answers and unable to stop the hot shooting of the Vikings. 

A back and forth start to the game quickly turned against the Panthers after the Vikings went on a 25-9 in the final stretch of the first half. The Panthers went to the locker room trailing by 16. Berry's hot shooting did not slow down as they were able to maintain their lead and ultimately hand the Panthers a loss. 

Birmingham-Southern was led by Jay Gillispie who recorded his second double-double of the weekend and his seventh of the season. Gillispie scored 16 points while grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Kaleb Green recorded 15 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point land and 5-of-10 overall.

Berry had four student-athletes score in double-figures. Chase Ellis led all scorers with 22 while also grabbing six boards. Michael Johnson went 4-of-7 from the arc in his 14-point performance. Blake Campbell and Jake Craft combined for 23 points in the win.

What it means
Birmingham-Southern now sits in solo fourth place after the loss and sit just one game out of second place. As of now, the Panthers are still in a position to host the first round of the SAA tournament. Rhodes defeated Sewanee today putting the two school in a tie for second place at 7-4 in the conference.

Up next
The Panthers will return to action on Friday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum. The Panthers will honor their seniors before the game in recognition of Senior Day.
