MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team started their weekend series against Rhodes with an 11-1 victory in five innings on Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
Margaret Axelson started things off big for the Panthers with a three-run homerun in the top of the first to take the early lead. Hailee Bryan started in the circle for BSC and saw three batters in the bottom of the second, striking out two. A mix of hits and errors added more runs for Birmingham-Southern in the top of the third with four runs on four hits and two errors from the Lynx. Emma Jolley hit a based loaded single through the left side to score Jordyn Green. Bringing in two more runs was a single to center field from Morgan McGuire, who brought in Cassidy Dickson and Olivia Trout to put the Panthers up 6-0. Izzy Berkopec brought in the final run on a fly ball to the short stop, making it a 7-0 lead for BSC. Olivia Trout came in to pitch for Birmingham-Southern in the bottom of the third. The Lynx put up their only run of the game in the third. The top of the fourth saw the rest of the runs for the Panthers with four scoring on three hits. Cassidy Dickson singles to left field to drive in Alyssa Fowler. Morgan McGuire added two more RBIs on for the night with a double to left center. Olivia Trout struck out one in the bottom of the fourth before Margaret Axelson took over in the circle. Axelson got Birmingham-Southern out of the fourth with two runners left on base for the Lynx, and ended the game with back to back strikeouts to give the Panthers a run-rule victory of 11-1.
