BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team got down early, but scored 13 unanswered runs to defeat the Lions 13-1 in their midweek game. The Panther offense was powered by
Wesley Diamantis,
Jack Fleming, and
Ian Hancock.
The Panthers improved their record to 18-1 on the season as Piedmont fell to 10-6.
Carter Tyus started on the bump for the Panthers throwing a strong five innings. After giving up a run in the first inning Tyus came back and threw the next four innings allowing just one hit and no runs. He finished his outing striking out seven hitter. The BSC bullpen pitched four innings of no-hit baseball and struk out four over that period.
The offense was led by
Wesley Diamantis. Diamantis went 3-for-4 on the day with all his hits going for extra bases. He also drove in three runs and scored twice.
Jack Fleming went 2-for-3 in the contest with an RBI and three runs scored. One of his hits was a solo home run.
Ian Hancock also hit a home run in the win, his team leading sixth of the year.
