PANTHERS LOSE IN A NAIL-BITER TO KALAMAZOO

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team was narrowly defeated in a back-and-forth non-conference contest against Kalamazoo College on Tuesday.

How it happened
  • Kalamazoo opened the scoring early in the first quarter, but the Panthers fired back with three straight goals in a little over a minute to make the score 3-1.
  • The Hornets eventually stopped the run from BSC, but the Panthers ultimately dominated the first quarter 7-3.
  • After a great start by BSC, Kalamazoo had a very strong second period and scored five unanswered goals until Sydney Riley ended the run with a goal.
  • The two teams went into halftime with the score tied 8-8. 
  • The third quarter was filled with goals from both sides as eight goals were scored a piece. The score was 16-16 at the end of the third which set up for an exciting finish. 
  • Kalamazoo started the scoring in the final period with two goals before BSC's Margot Peters answered with one of her six goals on the day to cut the lead to one.
  • The Hornets stretched their lead to two with 1:15 left to play, but Margot Peters once again scored to cut the lead to one with 54 seconds to go.
  • Despite a very close game, the Panthers ultimately ran out of time to complete the comeback and lost the contest to Kalamazoo 19-18.
