BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Panthers swept the Lynx of Rhodes College after an 18-9 win in which the Panthers hit four home runs. All four came off the bat of
Jack Fleming and
Wesley Diamantis.
For the third time in the series the Panthers struck first scoring a single run in the top of the first. Rhodes rebuttled with three runs of their own in the top of the second to take their first lead of the series.
After a scoreless second, BSC responded with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the third to take a 7-3 lead. Both teams scored three runs in the fifth. In the sixth BSC extended their lead to six runs scoring two in the seventh. Over the middle innings BSC recorded just four hits but took advantage of hit batters and walks to score five runs.
The Lynx clawed their way back in the game scoring three in the top of the seventh, but their momentum was quickly slowed down after BSC put up another six runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game comfortably 18-9.
Davis Williams earned the win relieving Tyus in the fourth.
Carter Tyus, who started the game, went 3.0 innings allowing three runs. Williams earned the same line score, while also striking out two hitters.
