JACKSON, Miss. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team earned their 26th victory of the season and also suffered their 3rd loss of the season after splitting the first two games in a three-game series against Millsaps. The Panthers won game one 8-1 and lost game two 2-0.
Game one
After a scoreless first three innings,
Cam McNearney scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth after a sacrifice fly from
Noah Best. McNearney added on two more for the Panthers in the top of the fifth inning with a two-RBI single. After Millsaps got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, the game was very tight until the ninth inning. Needing insurance runs, BSC exploded with five runs headlined by a solo homerun from
Jackson Webster. After a great six-inning outing from starting pitcher
Josh Leerssen only allowing three hits and one run,
Hansen McCown delivered three no-hit innings to finish the game. The Panthers went on to win game one of the three-game series 8-1.
Game two
The second game of the series was a very tight contest with only seven combined hits between the two teams. Millsaps scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, and BSC couldn't quite get things going on the offensive end. The game was scoreless for the next four innings until the Majors added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Panthers were shut out for the first time this season and ultimately lost game two 2-0 after seven innings. This was only BSC's third loss of the season.
