BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Despite putting up 27 runs in the doubleheader yesterday, the Birmingham-Southern men's baseball team struggled at the plate in the final game of the series against Centre on Senior Day.
The first two innings of the game were scoreless with both teams not being able to get a hit. In the top of the third, Centre broke the tie on a two-run homer to give the Colonels the lead.
The next four innings were extremely tight with neither team able to score. The Panthers continued to have an off day at the plate and could not register a hit.
In the top of the eighth inning, Centre added to their lead on a sac fly to stretch the deficit to three for BSC. In the bottom of the eighth, Wes Diamantis ended the no-hitter from the Colonels on a single. However, the Panthers could not rally and cut into the Centre lead.
The Colonels added another run in the top of the ninth inning and went on to win the contest 4-0. Although a frustrating day for the Panthers, they won the weekend series 2-1.
