BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a slow start, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team battled back to defeat Berry in the SAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday and advance to the SAA final four.
How it happened
- Berry got off to a very quick start with four unanswered goals inside the opening seven minutes of the game.
- Austin Johnson ended the early run from the Vikings with a goal, but Berry replied with a goal less than a minute later.
- After trailing by four, BSC scored two goals late in the first quarter to cut the deficit to two.
- The Panthers then scored the first two goals of the second period to tie the game at five.
- BSC and Berry then traded goals until halftime to make the score 7-7 heading into the break.
- At the start of the third quarter, Raymond Fracchia scored inside of a minute to give the Panthers their first lead in the quarterfinal.
- Cameron Herd then doubled BSC's lead shortly after before the Vikings answered with a goal.
- The Panthers added two more goals to Berry's one to take an 11-9 lead into the final quarter.
- After lots of back-and-forth play, BSC led Berry 13-12 with 6:51 to go in the contest.
- Then, goals from Austin Johnson and Reid Harrison only sixteen seconds apart stretched the Panther lead to three with a little over four minutes remaining.
- The rest of the game would remain scoreless, and BSC went on to defeat Berry for the second time this season this time by a score of 15-12.
