Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

PANTHERS EARN DRAW IN WEEKEND AWAY FROM HOME

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team earned a shutout draw against Centenary on Friday and fell to LeTourneau on Saturday in their away trip to Louisiana and Texas.

Game 1 vs. Centenary

The beginning of the match was very stagnant with both teams not having clear looks at goal. After 22 minutes of play, Montse Jasso recorded the first shot on goal of the night to open the game up slightly. The two sides would trade a couple of shots on goal but ultimately neither team heavily threatened to score.

After an early shot by Halle Morton in the second half, Centenary started to gain momentum with four-straight shots. The Panthers then started to have longer spells of possession and started to have great looks at goal. Sophie Smith got a shot saved for a corner and then got her header saved on the preceding corner in the 79th minute. Freshman forward Juliet Williams then had her shot saved which would be the Panthers last great look at goal. In the last minute of the game, Centenary got one last chance, but Grace Elsevier made the save to preserve the 0-0 draw.

Game 2 vs. LeTourneau

LeTourneau got off to a quick start by forcing Grace Elsevier into four saves inside the opening 18 minutes. The panthers struggled to gain any momentum going forward and could not get a decent look at goal. The game remained scoreless until the YellowJackets got on the board with a strike from distance with eight seconds to go in the half.

To start the second period, Juliet Williams got played through on goal from a great ball by Ali Schroeder but had her shot saved. LeTourneau then had three-straight shots of their own to take control of the match. Looking for the game-tying goal, BSC continued to push for the equalizer. Sophie Smith had a couple of her chances saved, but the Panthers couldn't quite open the flood gates. In the 84th minute, LeTourneau doubled their lead. Down 2-0, BSC started to commit more numbers forward and ultimately conceded a third late in the 88th minute.
