BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite great chances from both sides, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw at home against Piedmont.
The beginning of the match saw the Panthers with lots of possession but not many chances from either side. However, after a little over 18 minutes of play,
Halle Morton had her shot saved by Dornan of the Lions after a charging run forward.
Less than 10 minutes later, BSC had a flurry of chances with four looks at goal. The Panthers looked very threatening but couldn't quite put the ball in the back of the net.
With less than 15 minutes to go in the half, lightning struck and caused a delay of about an hour. Play eventually resumed, and both teams went into the half tied at zero.
Coming out of the half, both teams had good amounts of possession, but neither could muster a quality chance. The Panthers continued to dominate in the shots category, and started to fire more at the Piedmont goal.
With eight minutes to go, the Lions got a clear chance on goal from roughly 15 yards out. BSC's
Grace Elsevier came up with a big save to keep the match scoreless.
The Panthers continued to push for a late winner, but it ultimately would not come. BSC went on to draw Piedmont 0-0 in their season opener.
