ATLANTA, Ga. - After having their seven-game winning streak ended on Friday, the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team got back in the win column with a huge win over the current #3 seed Oglethorpe on Sunday.

Both teams came out ready to go early with a 9-9 tie at the first media timeout. The game remained tight until the Stormy Petrels gained the largest lead for either side up seven with 9:21 remaining in the half. The Panthers slowly trimmed the lead down to five with 4:30 left in the first period. Jay Gillispie then took control with a steal and six of the team's final eight points of the first half to cut the Oglethorpe lead to one. The Stormy Petrels would get a layup on a steal to end the half, but the Panthers remained in striking distance.

After the conclusion of halftime, 'Southern came out on a mission from behind the arc. The team went on a 19-5 run in the opening five minutes of the second half with five three-pointers. Junior guard Brandan Copeland led the way with three threes to take a 52-41 lead. The Panthers looked to be running away with the game, but Oglethorpe quickly responded with an 11-2 run in 3:53 to make the game a two-point game once again. They then took their first lead of the second half with 8:17 to go. BSC regained the lead shortly after, but four lead changes in back-and-forth basketball brought the conference contest to a 74-74 tie with 57 seconds remaining. The Panthers defense delivered with two huge stops as sophomore guard Dylan Patrick and Mr. Double-Double Jay Gillispie knocked down free throws to escape with a 76-74 win.
