GILLISPIE, GRAVES HEADLINE MEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-SAA AWARDS

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team had four members earn all-conference honors after the release by the SAA on Thursday. Jay Gillispie led the players with first team honors while Chris Graves earned Coach of the Year.

Chris Graves was named conference Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. The Panthers finished second in the SAA after the conclusion of the regular season after being projected fourth in the preseason poll. Under Graves, BSC finished second in the conference in points per game with 77.6 and third in scoring margin with a positive 0.5. Rebounding was also a huge emphasis for 'Southern after leading the conference in total rebounds with 1115 and rpg with 42.9. Defensively, the Panthers had the lowest opponent field goal percentage with .412.

Jay Gillispie earned First Team All-SAA after being named to the second team last season. Mr. Double-Double started all 25 games he was available for and led the team with 15.4 ppg and 11.5 rebounds per game. His 15.4 ppg put him top five in the conference while his 11.5 rebounds led the conference by almost three rebounds per game. Gillispie gathered 72 more rebounds than second place in the SAA as he finished with a total of 287 for the season. Gillispie also led the team in steals with 26 and was second in assists with 59. His 684 career rebounds places him fourth in program history for career rebounds.

Brody Davis earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career after being named to the All-SAA Second Team. The dominant big man started all 26 games for the Panthers and led the conference in blocked shots with 50 which is 13 more than second place. Davis finished third in the SAA in rebounding with 209 total and 8.0 rpg. Despite being a center, he also was fifth in the conference in minutes with 30.3 per game. In 2023-24, the junior also improved his scoring massively with 10.3 ppg to go along with his 31 total assists. 

Kaleb Green earned All-SAA honors for the first time in his career after being named Honorable Mention. The sharp shooter started 24 games for the Panthers and finished third in the conference in three-pointers per game with 2.2. Green finished second on the team in scoring with 13.7 ppg while knocking down a team-leading 55 threes. The junior was also second on the team from the free throw line with an impressive percentage of .745 for sixth in the SAA. Green drained timely shots for the Panthers including a buzzer-beater against Belhaven to force overtime in November.
