BSC ADVANCES TO 5-0 FOR BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - For the first time in school history, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team is 5-0 to start a season after a 21-7 win over Huntingdon on Wednesday.

How it happened
The Panthers asserted their dominance early with a 4-0 run inside of the opening nine minutes of play. Two goals by leading goal-scorer Cameron Herd in addition to Josh Tamarkin and Micah Finotti finishes led the run. Huntingdon got on the board with 39 seconds remaining in the half, but Raymond Fracchia maintained the four-goal lead after putting the ball in the back of the net with eight seconds to go in the first quarter.

Both teams traded goals to start the second period, and the Hawks got the game within three with 7:28 to go in the half. Raymond Fracchia then started a 5-1 push for BSC to take complete control in Montgomery. Austin Johnson put the exclamation point on the opening 30 minutes with a goal after four seconds remained on the clock. The Panther defense forced the Hawks to turn the ball over 21 times in the first half.

Huntingdon scored the opening goal of the second half, but BSC continued to roll. After 4-0 and 5-1 runs, BSC tacked on their largest unanswered run of the night with seven consecutive goals to close out the third period. The Panthers continued to play excellent team lacrosse with six different scorers in the run.

With a 13-goal lead heading into the final period, the Panthers had all but solidified their record-breaking fifth straight win. The Hawks, once again, scored the opening goal of the quarter, but the Panthers had a response, again. The fourth period was all Joey Amatulli as he recorded two goals and an assist as he had a hand in all three of the BSC fourth quarter goals. The Hawks scored a consolation goal late, but the Panthers went on to defeat their in-state rivals on the road, 21-7.

  • The defense and goalie Nathan Pepe held their opponent to single-digit goals for the fourth straight game in the win.
