PANTHERS RECORD SHUTOUT AND SEVEN-RUN COMEBACK IN PENSACOLA

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The 11th-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team bounced back in the final two games of the Blue Wahoos Tournament with a shutout win over Carroll on Friday and a seven-run comeback win over Lyon (Ark.) on Saturday.

BSC vs. Carroll
In a late-night contest, both teams were excellent on the mound. Through four innings, BSC starting pitcher Hayden Sottile had his best career outing with only one hit and no runs allowed.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jakob Zito brought Ian Hancock across the plate to score the game's first run. With only a one-run cushion, Sottile continued to deal in the fifth and kept the Pioneers scoreless.

Reliever Tams Mullins came in for Sottile in the sixth inning and was just as effective. He threw a scoreless sixth before Jakob Zito recorded his second RBI of the game to double the Panther lead.

Mullins finished the game for BSC and preserved the shutout with only two hits allowed. The Panthers did not add to their lead but went on to claim the victory on the night 2-0.

BSC vs. Lyon (Ark.)
Unlike Friday, the Panthers found themselves down 4-0 after just 1.5 innings of baseball. Freshman Charlie Banks continued his excellent week with an RBI triple in the bottom of the second, but 'Southern still had more runs to make up.

In the top of the fourth, the Scots had another four-run inning to put themselves up 8-1. Down seven, the Panthers needed to start chipping into the Lyon lead quickly. Jakob Zito then continued his hot hitting week with an RBI triple to score Ian Hancock. Charlie Banks went on to knock in Zito to cut the Lyon lead to five.

The Panthers seemed to be building momentum and were due to a huge inning. It came in the bottom of the fifth when the team exploded for six runs to take their first lead of the afternoon. Parker Ladd got the rally started with an RBI single to score Mitch Austin before Charlie Banks came up clutch again with his second triple of the night. This time, Banks ripped the ball with the bases loaded to clear the bases and cut the Lyon lead to 8-7. BSC kept the bats working, and Shane Nelson eventually brought Ty Truett and Charlie Banks home to give BSC a 9-8 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, another freshman had an opportunity at the plate with the bases loaded. This time, Forrest Lietz cleared the bases on an RBI double to give the Panthers a four-run cushion.

Eli Steadman singled in the succeeding inning to score BSC's 13th run as the BSC pitching held the Scots scoreless throughout the remainder of the game for a 13-8 win.
