Game Recap: Softball |

SOFTBALL DROPS BOTH TO UNDEFEATED HUNTINGDON

Game 1 of the doubleheader got exciting early, with Birmingham-Southern taking 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning from 2 Huntingdon errors. The Hawks responded in the next half inning with a solo home run over the left field wall—tying the match up at 1-1.

Birmingham-Southern found more momentum in the bottom of the second inning, earning a 3-1 lead. Maile White reached on a lead-off walk followed by a SAC bunt by Jaley Davis to put White in scoring position. Katie Hart reached on a Huntingdon throwing error, scoring White and putting herself in scoring position as well. Emma Jolley delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Hart and giving BSC a 2 run lead through as many innings.

The Hawks responded to the two-run strike by putting another run on the board in the top of the third caused by a hit by pitch and RBI double. Huntingdon stayed consistent at the plate, tying up the match at 3-3 with a lead-off single, SAC bunt, and RBI single.

Game 1 BSC starter Olivia Trout kept the Hawks at bay, pitching two straight shutout innings in the 5th and 6th. In the final inning of Game 1, Huntingdon offense broke open the game, scoring 4 runs off 3 hits and a BSC error. The Panthers were ultimately not able to come back from the 4-run deficit and fell in Game 1 in a final score of 7-3.

Game 2 proved to be equally intense, with Huntingdon putting the first run on the board from a solo home run in the top of the first. Morgan McGuire smoked a triple in the bottom of the first, earning BSC's first extra base hit of the day, but was unfortunately stranded at third.

Huntingdon worked quickly to plate two more runs in the second inning, loading up the bases with three singles. BSC defense shut down their first scoring attempt with 6-2 out at the plate. With two outs and bases loaded, Kylie Stephens hit a 2-RBI single up the middle, making it a 3-0 ballgame.

Natalie Snow, the BSC Game 2 starter in the circle, dominated through the next five innings. Snow allowed no runs and just two hits. Birmingham-Southern was unable to find success at the plate and recover from the early Huntingdon lead, resulting in a 3-0 Game 2 loss.
