Women's Soccer falls to Sewanee in home finale, 3-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team lost in its home finale on Sunday afternoon, falling to Sewanee 3-0 on Preston Goldfarb Field.

The Panthers fell to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Tigers moved to 9-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the SAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sewanee scored its first goal early when Katie Morrison netted a goal off an assist from Dayla LaRocque in the ninth minute.
  • After taking the 1-0 lead into halftime, the Tigers scored early in the second half as well, this time when Nikki Johnston fed the ball to Tyler Edell in the 48th minute.
  • Morrison scored again less than three minutes later, assisted by Callie Ruf.

NOTABLE

  • BSC out-shot Sewanee 8-7, but all seven of the Tigers' shots were on-goal.
  • Seniors Avery Newcomb and Sammy Manzo and junior Nicole Newton all had two shots apiece for the Panthers.
  • Senior goalkeeper Katie Williams recorded four saves, as did Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe.
  • Newcomb, Manzo, Williams, and fellow seniors Mattie Gereben, Sarah Lombardi, Ashley Prouty, and Jessie Sperry were honored prior to the game.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers wrap up regular season play next Saturday, Oct. 24, traveling to face Hendrix in Conway, Ark., at noon.
