DANVILLE, Ky.—The Birmingham-Southern football team lost on the road Saturday to Centre, 42-26, in Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.

The Panthers fell to 4-5, while the Colonels won their third straight game and moved to 6-2.

After a scoreless first quarter, Centre scored three touchdowns in the second quarter, and carried a 21-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Panthers got on the board at the 10:19 mark of the third quarter on a 10-yard run by junior tailback Samir Usman, but the extra point was blocked. Centre scored again three minutes later to pull ahead 28-6.

BSC found the end zone three minutes after the Colonels' touchdown, this time on a 37-yard run by sophomore tailback Kyler Jackson. The Panthers' two-point conversion failed, cutting the score to 28-12, and after a big kick-off return by Centre, the Colonels scored quickly before the end of the third quarter to extend their lead to 35-12.

Panther sophomore Jamal Watkins made a four-yard run early in the fourth quarter, and the extra point was good, bringing the score to 35-19, but Centre answered quickly again with the Colonels' final touchdown of the game. BSC would score once more with 6:17 left in the game, a 10-yard pass from junior Austin Martin to sophomore Jonathan Scaringe, to bring the final score to 42-26.

Martin was 12-26 for 156 yards, and Jackson led with 135 rushing yards on 10 carries. Watkins led the receivers with 100 yards on six catches. Freshman kicker Ryder Andrews was 2-3 on extra points.

Senior linebacker Alex King led the BSC defense with 15 tackles (five solo) including one sack, as well as a fumble recovery. Junior Preston Hooper and sophomore Kerrigan Pennington each had an interception as well.

Centre quarterback Heath Haden had a record day for the Colonels, tying the single-game school record with 445 yards passing.

BSC wraps up the season next weekend at home, hosting league-leading Berry (7-1, 6-0 SAA) at 1 p.m. on Battle Field at General Charles Krulak Stadium.
