Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's volleyball team defeated Centre College 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 16-4 overall, 9-2 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Panthers hit .343 as a team in the final set to secure the win on their senior day.
Setter Rachel Lee (Montgomery, Ala./The Montgomery Academy) spread the ball around and earned a match-high 35 assists. It marked her fourth match this season with over 30 assists.
Jeneva Salter (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) led with a match-high 13 kills, hitting .370. And Caroline Johnson (Lucas, Texas/Lovejoy HS) picked up a match-high 19 digs.
The Panther are back in action this coming Wednesday, Oct. 19 in their final home stand. They take on Millsaps College at 6 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
BSC honored its two seniors, Caroline Hyde (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) and Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./The Randolph School), pregame. The pair have combined for 1,175 kills across 635 sets in their career so far.
They were a part of the first BSC volleyball team to make an NCAA appearance. Both Hyde and Van Peursem are three-year SAA Academic Honor Roll awardees, members of the Dean's List all three years of their college career, and are a part of several national honor societies.
Hyde plans to graduate with a degree in English. Van Peursem is expected to graduate with a degree in biology and a minor in psychology.
