BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After falling behind 6-0, the No. 6 Birmingham-Southern baseball team scored four runs in the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Panthers fell to No. 7 Emory, 6-4, Tuesday evening at Striplin Field.

The Panthers fell to 20-7, while the Eagles moved to 21-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Emory scored twice in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on a BSC error to go up 2-0.
• The Eagles added three more in the fifth, again taking advantage of an error by the Panthers to pull ahead 5-0, and then scored their final run in the top of the seventh.
• After recording three hits through the first six innings, BSC got three hits in the bottom of the seventh and scored four runs.
• Junior Sam Roberts and freshman Tyler Wise led off the inning with singles, and Roberts scored on a sac-fly by senior Nathan Qualls.
• After the second out of the inning, sophomore Brayden Housel walked and Wise went to third on a wild pitch, and then freshman Preston White loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch.
• A double down the left field line from senior Taylor McCracken scored three runs, cutting the lead to 6-4, before the end of the inning.
• The Panthers got a runner to second in the eighth and a runner to first in the ninth, but were unable to score again.

NOTABLE

• McCracken was 2-of-5 with three RBI, Housel was 2-of-3, and Wise was 2-of-4.
• Freshman John Michael Shirley (0-1) started and took the loss, going four innings and giving up no hits and one earned run.
• Junior Easton Fuller, sophomore Ross James, and senior Wilson Jamison also saw action on the mound.

UP NEXT

• The Panthers travel to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend for a conference series against Rhodes, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game at noon on Sunday.
