Women's Tennis wraps up conference play with 8-1 win against Rhodes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Playing its final conference match of the season, the Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team defeated Rhodes, 8-1, Sunday morning at the Ann Dielen Tennis Complex.

The Panthers, ranked 10th in the Atlantic South region, moved to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the SAA, a half-match behind first-place Sewanee at 6-0, who is ranked 10th in the nation and third in the region. The Lynx fell to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the SAA.

DOUBLES

  • Senior Sara Cohen and sophomore Carlee Petro won at one doubles, 8-3, moving to 12-3 on the year.
  • Freshmen McKenzie Courtney and Isabella Wisener won at No. 2 doubles, 8-0, to move to 12-4.
  • Rhodes did not have enough players to field a doubles team at No. 3.

SINGLES

  • Petro won at the top singles spot to move to 14-3, while Wisener and Hammond won at three and four singles.
  • Wisener moved to 9-8 and Hammond moved to 5-5 with the victories.
  • Five and six singles were not played.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers wrap up regular season play at home next Sunday, April 24, hosting Transylvania at 10 a.m.
  • BSC will begin post-season play at the 2016 SAA Championship, April 29-May 1 at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
