Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern College football team held off Austin College 31-24 to pick up its first conference win of the season. BSC improved to 2-5 overall, 1-4 against Southern Athletic Association opponents.
Ryder Andrews (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) set a new program record with a 51-yard field goal in the final seconds of play. He finished 4-for-4 in extra point tries.
Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) led all scorers with 12 points. He had game-highs of 93 receiving and 302 return yards and finished with two touchdowns. Kyler Jackson (Hoover, Ala./Auburn Univ.) ran for a game-high 90 yards, averaging over 11 yards per carry.
Defensively, Matthew Byers (Pelham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic HS) finished with a season and game-high 14 tackles, 12 solo, and one for a loss. He also broke up two passes and intercepted another. His blocked field goal was returned by Wes Guilford (Atlanta, Ga./Stockbridge HS) 75 yards to put the Panthers up 14-7
BSC returns home to face No. 20 Berry College on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
