SAA Tournament: Panthers Headed to Title Match, Defeat Hendrix 3-2

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Birmingham-Southern women's volleyball is headed to its third Southern Athletic Association championship match in four years after fending off Hendrix College to win 3-2 in Saturday's semifinal.  BSC (20-7) will face top seed Berry College at 2 p.m. ET Sunday for the 2017 tournament title.

 

Emmy Kilgore (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) earned a double-double in the win.  She tied Julia Denby (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) with a match-high 18 kills and also picked up 14 digs. 

 

Melaina Hissam (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) grabbed a match-high 38 digs.  And Rachel Lee (Montgomery, Ala./The Montgomery Academy) earned a match and career-high 58 assists.

 

Sunday will mark the third meeting of the two programs this season and first time they have met in the championship.  Berry has defeated the Panthers 3-1 twice this season.  The Vikings went undefeated against SAA teams to earn the regular season title and top seed.  Fans can follow the action and get more information on the bracket at tournament central.
