BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team won its fifth consecutive match on Wednesday night, downing the Belhaven Blazers 1-0.

In the sixth minute, freshman midfielder Abby Kay Choate scored the lone goal of the match, beating the keeper with a ball smashed into the left side of the net. Sophomore forward Rachael Motamed crossed the ball in from the left side of the pitch and found Choate waiting to put it away.

The Panther defense suffocated Belhaven for the remaining 84 minutes. The Blazers managed just one shot on goal for the entire match. BSC outshot Belhaven 19-6 and had seven shots on goal.

BSC's next game will be at Emory on Sunday, Sept. 17. The Panthers' next home match will be against Rhodes College on Saturday, Sept. 30.
