DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team earned its first Southern Athletic Association win of the season Saturday in a 5-3 decision over Centre College. BSC is now 8-5 overall.
Carlee Petro (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) picked up two wins on the day. Along with partner Isabella Wisener (Horton, Ala./Douglas HS), the pair took No. 1 doubles 8-5. Petro then went on to win at No. 1 singles, 6-5, 6-3.
Virginia Hammond (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory School), Emily Enoch (Nashville, Tenn./Christ Presbyterian Academy), and Ashton Henderson (Birmingham, Ala./Laurel Springs HS) earned the singles wins that pushed the Panthers to victory. Hammond came back to win at No. 4 after dropping the first set. Enoch won the first set tiebreak and then took set two at No. 5 singles. And Henderson held off a second set push from her opponent to win the tiebreak and the match.
The Panthers return home for their next match. They take on Oglethorpe University at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 7.
