Panthers Host Montevallo, UWF in Home Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against the University of Montevallo and the University of West Florida at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday afternoon.

The men's team defeated Montevallo by a score of 165-55 while the women split against Montevallo and UWF 175-52 and 62-180, respectively.

The men took first place in 11 events while the women took the top spot in three events.

Senior Nico Medina (Davie, Fla./American Heritage HS) finished first in two events, the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles, with times of 48.18 and 1:46.37, respectively. Sophomore James Hughes (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom HS) also had two wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The Panther men also came first in both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

On the women's side, the Panthers' three wins came from senior Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) and sophomore Anna Jordan Luth (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington HS). Erwin, a seven-time All-American, won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.89. Luth had two wins in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard freestyle.

Birmingham-Southern will return to the Crossplex on Saturday, Jan. 18 for their Senior Day meet against Berry, Millsaps, and Bethel. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the Senior Day presentation taking place around 9:45 a.m.
