Day One of Viking Classic Belongs to BSC

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's swimming and diving teams lead the competition at Berry's Viking Classic after day one.

Both BSC squads – the men with 244 points and the women with 240 points – hold the lead after the first 10 events.

The Panthers won three individual events and one relay event on Friday. On the women's side, Mary Katherine Stewart (Daphne, Ala./Daphne HS) took first in the 500-yard freestyle while senior Becca Erwin (Duluth, Ga./Duluth HS) won the 200-yard IM event. The Panthers also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.57.

On the men's side, the lone first-place finish came from senior Nico Medina (Hollywood, Fla./American Heritage HS), who won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.9.

The Viking Classic continues at Berry College's Cage Center on Saturday, Jan. 25.
