Box Score 2 LAGRANGE, Ga. – The No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball team grabbed both games in a doubleheader at LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon.
BSC, now 4-0 to start the season, won the opening game of the series by a score of 9-2 before earning the 8-1 victory in game two.
Sophomore designated hitter Wes Diamantis (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius X HS) was BSC's top offensive threat in the first game, finishing 2-of-5 with three RBI. Junior Alfredo Granier (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents Episcopal) also had a multi-RBI game with two.
Senior righty Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) earned the win in the opening game, tossing six innings and allowing just one run while striking out seven batters.
In the second game, five different Panthers contributed to the scoring effort as BSC plated eight runs. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Birmingham-Southern scored two in the fourth inning and really laid it on in the seventh, sending six runs across.
Junior pitcher Adam Richards (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla./South Walton HS) was awarded the win in the game, throwing two scoreless innings after three innings by starter Hansen McCown (Indian Springs, Ala./Oak Mountain HS).
Senior southpaw Hanan Mauldin (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) tossed the final three innings and earned his first save of the season.
Birmingham-Southern hosts LaGrange at Striplin Field in its home opener on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m.
