BSC Drops Home Opener to LaGrange

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell to LaGrange College 4-1 in its home opener on Sunday afternoon, the Panthers' first loss of the season.

After taking the first two games of the series at LaGrange, BSC was unable to complete the series sweep at Striplin Field.

BSC started the game off in a hole, allowing three runs in the top of the first inning. LaGrange then added another run in the third to make it 4-0 before BSC ended the shutout in the bottom of the inning.

Birmingham-Southern's lone run came off a Will Evans (Peachtree City, Ga./Starrs Mill HS) single in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker HS) hurdled the LaGrange catcher to tag home safely.

Junior Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) got the start on the mound and tossed five innings allowing four runs off six hits. Jack Stephens (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) and Camden McNearney (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison HS) came in in relief and pitched two innings each.

With the loss, BSC drops to 4-1 overall. The Panthers will host North Park in their next home series starting on Friday, Feb. 21.
