Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 4-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team earned the series sweep of North Park on Sunday, beating the Vikings 9-1 in game three.
The Panthers limited the North Park offense and strung together five straight scoring innings in the game to down the Vikings and improve to 7-1 on the season.
Junior right-hander Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) got the start on the mound for BSC and pitched five shutout innings, striking out seven batters and awarding no walks. His performance earned him the win, his first of the season. Harvin was relieved by a committee of Panthers who each tossed an inning to close out the game.
At the plate, the Panthers did damage in each of the first five innings, scoring single runs in the first, second, and fourth innings while putting up crooked numbers in the third and fifth innings. BSC capped the scoring in the eighth with another run for good measure.
Of the 18 Panthers that made an appearance at the plate, ten managed a hit against the Vikings, with five of those having two hits each. Junior catcher Will Evans (Peachtree City, Ga./Starrs Mill HS) accounted for four of BSC's nine runs, going 2-of-3 from the dish with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. In total, the Panthers outhit the Vikings 15 to four.
Next up, the Panthers will host Covenant at Striplin Field for a single game on Tuesday, Feb. 25. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
