ATLANTA – The No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the Emory Eagles 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 2-0 this season.

The game, originally scheduled to be a neutral site contest at Piedmont, was moved to Emory due to poor weather.

After surrendering the opening run of the game in the first inning, the Panthers came back and scored four unanswered runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. Up 2-1 in the ninth, BSC scored two more insurance runs to cushion the lead.

Third baseman Drew Love (Birmingham, Ala./Calhoun CC) accounted for three of BSC's four runs with three RBI. Love hit a sac fly to send in the game-tying run in the sixth, followed it up with another sacrifice fly in the eighth to give BSC the go-ahead run, and closed out his day at the plate with an RBI single into left field that capped the scoring.

Junior right-hander Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) got the start for BSC. He pitched six innings, allowing one run off six hits while striking out five batters. Freshman Hansen McCown (Indian Springs, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) came in in relief in the seventh and tossed three shutout innings to close out the game and earn the win.

Birmingham-Southern will remain on the road for its next game. The Panthers travel to LaGrange College on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a doubleheader against the Panthers out of Georgia.
