FOOTBALL WEEKEND PREVIEW VS. SEWANEE TIGERS

The Birmingham-Southern Football returns home this Saturday, Oct. 2 as they host the Sewanee Tigers in their SAA Conference Opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Battle Field. BSC is 10-3 all-time against The University of the South.

General Krulak Stadium will be at 100% capacity come Saturday night, but there are policies and procedures fans, and spectators need to follow.
 
While seated in the stands, fans must wear a mask covering their nose and mouth. If fans, choose to walk around the confines of the stadium you must wear a mask unless you are able to keep a 10-foot distance between other individuals and families.

A look at the BSC Panthers
This weekend will mark the 14th all-time matchup against Sewanee and the 10th conference matchup. Birmingham-Southern holds a 10-3 record all-time and a 6-3 conference record against the Tigers. The Panthers have won five of the previous six matchups.
 
Robert Shufford continues to impress in the running game having rushed for 498 yards on 65 carries and nine touchdowns in just three games. Shufford currently ranks seventh in rushing yards in all of Division III football. The senior running back also is tied for second in rushing touchdowns.
 
The offensive line also continues to get better each week. They have not allowed a sack since week one of the season. They paved the way in week two against in-state rival Huntingdon for 601 total yards, a new program single-game record.
 
The defense continues to be a force to be reckoned with a +7 turnover margin and ranking fourth in the country in total sacks with 13. The defense also ranks top 20 in team tackles for loss with 27 total tackles for loss. The Panther defense has not allowed a single point in the second half of a game this year. 
 
A look at the Sewanee Tigers
The Tigers come into this matchup with an 0-3 overall record, with losses to Washington & Lee, Westminster, and Hendrix.
 
The Tiger offense is led by freshman, quarterback, Jeremiah Young who has thrown for 318 yards and four touchdowns. Young has a 101.36 quarterback rating and is averaging 106 passing yards per game. The University of the South has two running backs with over 100 yards rushing on the season in George Morrice and Hunter Jones.
 
Jacob Jackson and Keegan Glaze lead the defensive attack each with 30+ tackles. The two have combined for 5.5 tackles for loss for -18 yards. The defense is giving up 43.67 points per game.
