FOOTBALL WEEKEND PREVIEW VS. TRINITY (TEXAS)

The Panther football team is set to host SAA opponent Trinity University (Texas) in a decisive game that will determine at the very least a share of the conference regular season title.

A look at the Birmingham-Southern Panthers
The Panthers come into this game ranked No. 19 in both the D3football.com top 25 poll and the AFCA poll. The Panthers come off a 21-3 victory over conference rival Berry and are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the SAA this season. 

The Panthers continue to shine in the running game gaining 274 yards on the ground last game and also getting two rushing touchdowns from their work horse, Robert Shufford. Shufford piled up 213 yards in the game last weekend. 

Trey Patterson continues to take care of the football turning over the ball just once in the Panthers previous five games. Patterson has also thrown for over 150 yards in six of eight games this season. 

The Birmingham-Southern defense ranks 10th nationally in total defense allowing 216.9 yards per game, the Panther defense also ranks fourth in division three in scoring defense allowing 8.5 points per game. BSC also ranks seventh in rushing defense allowing just under 60 yards per game. The defense is led by athletic linebackers Court Coley and Cameron DeArman who led the team in total tackles.

A look at the Trinity Tigers
Trinity comes into the contest ranked No. 18 in D3football.com top 25 poll and No. 17 in the AFCA poll. The Tigers are also undefeated on the season coming in at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the SAA. 

The Tiger offense is averaging 489.9 yards per game, with 325.9 of those yards through the air.  Quarterback Tucker Horn heads the offense throwing for 1,907 yards, 28 touchdowns and one interception. The Trinity offense ranks 11th in Division III in total offense. 

The Trinity defense is strong allowing 6.7 points per game. The defense is led by three linebackers Caleb Harmel, James Ogunrin, and Michael Jewett, each have recorded 25+ tackles on the season. The Trinity defense ranks first in Division III in scoring defense.

> The last time BSC beat a nationally ranked team was Berry on Oct. 19, 2019.
> Birmingham-Southern is 0-10 all-time against the Tigers. 
> Both teams rank in the top five in scoring defense in Division III.
> Both teams rank in the top 15 in total offense in Division III.

The Panthers will travel to Jackson, Miss. on Saturday, Oct. 13 to take on Millsaps at 1 p.m. in their regular season finale.
