A look at the BSC Panthers
This weekend marks the 13th matchup all-time against LaGrange. In the previous 12 games BSC holds a 7-5 all-time record against the Panthers with Birmingham-Southern winning seven of the last 10 meetings.
On offense the Panthers return All-American running back
Robert Shufford. In three games last season Shufford rushed for 328 yards on 59 carries and recorded eight total touchdowns. BSC will also return first team All-SAA selection Brandon Rew. Rew recorded 15 receptions for 284 yards and three scores in the condensed 2021 spring season.
The offensive line will be anchored by three year starter
Chris Moore at center.
Derrick Maddox will return on the left side of the line and Mike Gray looks to improve upon his 2021 spring season at right tackle. Quarterback
Trey Patterson will be well protected over the course of the season.
The Panthers defense will be a force to be reckoned with. BSC returns two of the best defensive backs in Division III football in
DJ Albright and
Wes Guilford returning. BSC's defensive front will cause a lot of havoc on opposing quarterbacks this year. The Panthers return three all-conference players in
Garrett Smith,
Clay Youngblood and
Cameron DeArman.
Zion Thomas and
Trey Gory also look to make a big impact this season after a great 2021 spring season.
A look at the LaGrange Panthers
LaGrange will come into the contest not playing an official game since Nov. 10, 2019. With almost two years without competition the Panthers are sure to be ready to play come Saturday.

On defense LaGrange returns just one of their top five tacklers from the 2019 season. The 2019 defense allowed 32.2 points per game during their 10-game schedule. The Panther defense also held opponents under 370 yards per game during the 2019 season.
