BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team opened up conference play with two wins over The University of the South. BSC took game one 3-1, and won the second game in walk-off fashion 4-3.
Game one
BSC broke a scoreless tie in the second inning after a single by
Will Lantis scored
Jack Fleming to give the Panthers an early lead. Sewanee quickly got the run back in the top of the third inning after a wild pitch, pushed across a run for the Tigers.
The teams would remain deadlocked at 1-1, but in the fifth inning
Noah Best broke the tie. Best hit a solo home run to right-center field that gave Birmingham-Southern a one run lead in the middle stages of the game. The Panthers added one more on in the seventh. BSC did not allow a run after the third inning and only gave up two hits the rest of the game.
Birmingham-Southern won game one 3-1.

Game two
In game two it was Sewanee that struck first. In the third inning, after the first two runners reached base the Tigers sac bunted the two runners over to put runners at second and third. Sewanee then hit a sac fly to bring in the first run of the game. After a walk, an error by BSC plated two more and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth the Panthers broke through and got on the scoreboard.
Cole Steadman hit a solo homerun to lead off the inning. After an out in the order
Noah Best singled, stole second, and later scored on a
Jack Fleming double to right field.
Wes Diamantis stepped up and ripped a two-out single to center field to bring home Fleming and tie the game. After four innings of play BSC and Sewanee were tied 3-3.
The game would remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning.
Luke DePiero drew a walk, after an out was recorded
Andrew Dutton singled sending DePiero first to third. With runners on the corners
Cole Steadman looked to walk it off. The Tigers would intentionally walk him bringing
Ian Hancock to the plate. Hancock hit into a fielder choice up the middle, scoring on the play was DePiero giving the Panthers their second win of the day, winning 4-3.
